Anthony started wrestling a couple weeks ago and he LOVES it!! Out of all the sports he's done so far, this is by far the one he is most excited about. He is constantly saying how much he loves it and practices his moves on Isabella and I often. He has made a lot of new friends, including his coach, two assistant coaches and a handful of Sehome High School wrestlers who come to help coach. They are all awesome! They are there to help because they want to, they don't get paid for it. They are very encouraging and hands-on in teaching these kids the proper moves and holds and they make it fun. It is SO fun to watch! I am really pleased with what a tight-knit group his team is and how well the coach does with them. I think it's really good for Anthony and gives him a lot of self-confidence. They had their first match last Thursday, against Whatcom. Anthony didn't get to wrestle anyone from Whatcom because there are two boys on his team in his weight class and Whatcom only had one, so he wrestled one of his teammates after the Whatcom/Fairhaven matches were done. He did really well and I am SO proud of him, not just for the great job he's doing and how eager he is to learn, but also for getting out there and trying new things! Wrestling is an "all eyes on you" sport, and that has never been an easy thing for him, being in the spotlight (hummmm..... I think he takes after his mama on that one), but he is doing VERY well. In fact, when he came home after his first practice, he said his coach asked him if he'd ever wrestled before, and he told him no. He then told him he had some real natural talent. Then when I went to watch him practice the next day, I met his coach and talked to him a little bit and he told me the same thing and said that one of his Sehome helpers had also commented on Anthony's talent. I know that made him feel good, and I'm so happy for him that he's found something he's so passionate about!
Chris is also ecstatic that Anthony is wrestling. He did wrestling in high school and has been watching the high school wrestling tournaments. So, he was really excited that Anthony was going to wrestle this year. He has been going to a lot of Anthony's practices, teaching him more moves and showing him wrestling videos on You Tube to give him more ideas and show him how it's done. So cute! :) I'm excited for his next match and to see how he does this next time around!
