This has got to be the most amazing and insane adventure I've ever been on. I took the kids to Vancouver, BC on the last day of the Olympics, to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. It wasn't planned, I decided that morning that we were going to go. Albert was working nights, so he was sleeping and had to be to work at 7 p.m. So the kids and I left around 1:30 p.m. to head up to Vancouver. The final hockey game, between Canada and USA, was going on at this time, and as soon as we found a parking spot in downtown Vancouver and got out of the car, there was this sudden outbreak of screaming, yelling and cheering. The game was over. Canada won. WOW!! We walked down the alley where we had parked, and made our way to the streets of downtown. It was mayhem! There were people EVERYWHERE and boy were they excited! I've never seen anything like it! People were coming out of restaurants and bars where they had been watching the game, most of them very intoxicated, and everyone was waving their Canadian flags, screaming, cheering, hugging and slapping high fives to anyone and everyone. This went on for hours, I'm sure into the wee hours of the morning. It was exciting and fun, but very crazy! The kids and I were trying to make our way around, but there were so many people and it was so hard to move that we decided after about half hour to go back to the car and drive to Canada Place, where the Olympic cauldron was. The atmosphere there was much better. There were still a lot of people, but not nearly as many, and they were a lot more mellow in those parts. After hanging out there for awhile and taking pictures, we went to have dinner and then headed back for home. Little did we know, my car would overheat several times and we wouldn't make it home that night. To make a very long story short, Albert ended up having to leave work and come pick us up. I left my car at a Safeway parking lot in China Town and we ended up back at home at 1:30 a.m. Poor Albert then had to turn around and go right back to work. I felt so bad for him! He tried fixing my car that night, but everything was closed at 11:30 p.m. So the next morning, I dropped the kids off at school (an hour late) and Albert and I headed back to Vancouver to fix my car and bring it home. Thank goodness for my friend Cheryl who picked up both Anthony and Isabella from school that day so we could get back up there before our car was towed! On our way up, we were really worried my car wouldn't be there when we got there. There were 2-hour time limit signs all over the parking lot. Anyway, the car was still there, and my wonderful husband fixed it and we followed each other back home. What an adventure!!! I'm having problems with my car again, but at least it's here and not in another country this time! :) All in all, I'm glad we went. It was a rough night, but it could have been a lot worse.
Downtown Vancouver

Anthony took lots of pictures from the car while we were trying to make our way from downtown to Canada Place. He got some great shots!

Canada Place

Just some of the many silly faces of my children..... there are lots more!
Anthony had some fun with the camera while we were waiting in the Safeway parking lot for Albert to come pick us up.
