Thank you all for your prayers! My dad went in yesterday morning at 5am for his surgery. The surgery went very well and the doctors were able to remove the whole tumor! They said there are most likely some microscopic pieces left in there but that the tumor was one big mass (37 lbs. to be exact). They did also have to remove one of his kidneys that was damaged, but they did not have to remove any of his colon! They told us they would probably have to remove the kidney and part of his colon, so that was awesome news!! They also said that he would most likely not have to undergo chemo or radiation because they were able to remove the whole visible tumor and that the cancer had not spread anywhere outside of the tumor. I am so happy and so relieved that he does not have to go through that!! He is going to feel amazing when he recovers! He has had an extremely rough and painful time the past couple of months, especially the last 4-5 weeks, so he is going to feel like a whole new man! :)
He will be in ICU for a couple of days and then will be moved to another room in the UW Medical Clinic for about a week. They will then do another CT scan in a couple weeks to check everything out and if it looks good, he will have another one in about 6 months. These tumors (lipo sarcomas) tend to grow back and depending on the grade of the tumor, they can grow back slowly or pretty quickly. They will biopsy the tumor this week and have the results in next week to let us know more about it.
Thank you again for your prayers. Please continue to pray for a quick recovery and minimal pain and that the news continues to stay positive!
